Why We Need Universal Healthcare: Simply Explained

It’s not rocket science.

On Facebook yesterday, I participated in one of those “post this as your status if you think this is worthwile” things. Stating simply:

Carolyn says no one should die because they cannot afford health care, no one should go broke because they get sick, and no one should be turned down for insurance because of a pre-existing condition. If you agree, please post this as your status for today.

The friend that I got this from was getting berated by assholes who are still under the impression that there are going to be “Death Panels” and “Rationing” of health care. People, there are already “death panels” and “rationing” by the insurance companies when they won’t pay for your ailing parent to stay in the hospital because their insurance ran out and they have to go home to suffer even though they’re not “well” or when you have necessary surgery deemed “too experimental” by your insurance company and you can’t have the procedure done. Someone tell me how that’s not being done already?

I listened to this on my way home from Mankato on Wednesday: NPR Special Report: The Health Care Debate. Quite enlightening.

I’m just tired of all the fear mongering going around…let’s just talk about this rationally, ok? Our lives depend on it.
