For the first time in my life, I have written to my Congressman (or woman in this case). I emailed MN Senator Amy Klobuchar to express my opinion on the next round of stimulus spending.
After hearing President Obama state yesterday how “shameful” the financial industry executives were for spending $18.4 BILLION on bonuses for themselves, I was outraged. People are getting laid off daily and people that don’t have jobs can’t get them – yet these assholes can somehow justify giving themselves a fat bonus because of all their “hard work?!” Do you know how many people could’ve been paid a damn good wage by that $18.4 billion? Hundreds of thousands of people. It’s insane.
I emailed Senator Klobuchar to implore her to fight for tougher restrictions and more strict oversight as to how this next round of stimulus is spent.
There’s this op-ed piece over at the Huffington Post about needless layoffs that had the best description of the current “American Businessman”:
The American businessman on display lately isn’t John Galt from Atlas Shrugged; he’s Gollum from The Lord Of The Rings – so focused on his precious shiny baubles, $87,000 office makeovers and quarterly dividends that he’s lost his sense, soul and mind.
Precioussssss.
Having never read Atlas Shrugged, I don’t know the John Galt character…but the Gollum comparison seems to be spot-on.
2009 is going to be a LONG year – but regardless of your viewpoint on the situation, tell the people who are making these decisions how you feel, and do it now!

I love Sen. Claire McCaskill. Seriously. They’re all a bunch of greedy fuckers.
I too miss Pownce – but I’m glad you’re following me here!
