A blog about me, not kittens

Yes We Can!

I just happened to find a number of stories in today’s news that I needed to comment on and thus this post will be a bit disjointed. You have been warned.

This story about 9-year old Jericho Scott being told he can’t pitch on his baseball team anymore because he’s “too good” really pisses me off.

He’s too good? What in the hell is wrong with our society?

Tim and I had this discussion during the Olympics after the backlash that Michael Phelps was (and still is, to some extent) getting about how “dorky” and “ugly” he is after he did one of the greatest feats in sports history. I did notice, however, that most of the criticism is coming from heterosexual men – because just about every woman I know (and my gay male friends) thinks he’s a hottie.

Getting back on point, what we talked about was the fact that in our society, it seems that nobody is allowed to be great anymore. Nobody is allowed to be “better than” someone else. It’s prevalent in schools where they can’t give poorly performing students an F because it’ll hurt their self esteem or the tee-ball games where they don’t keep score because they don’t want any “losers” or not letting Jericho Scott pitch because he has a 40mph fastball at 9 years of age. Michael Phelps has to be “ugly” and “grotesque” because he won 8 gold medals. Who cares what he looks like? (I think he’s adorable, btw) What he did is amazing! Why not give him some damn credit for a change? And they should let little Jericho pitch and obliterate the competition if he wants to.

Regarding the Rednecks for Obama – I want a t-shirt.

I can see this picture coming in handy sometime:

The “K” cracks me up every time.

Tim’s first day of (going back to) college is today! I’m so proud of him. It’ll be rough financially while he is in school, but it’ll be worth it in the long run.

Also, Hillary supporters just need to get over it and STFU.

  1. IMO, Phelps is a Butterface (Buthisface?). His body’s bangin’…but-his-face! =P

  2. Preach it, sista! You already know my feelings on the whole ‘level the playing field’ theory. Hate it.

The lions are still making me laugh…hours after my first read. I may have to steal that.

Also agree that the PUMAs need to seriously chill the eff out and just roll with it. It’s over. She’s out. Move on.

  3. 1. This all falls under my “breeding a nation of pussies” theory. Seriously. I can’t get over how whiny the population has gotten and how bad it’s gotten with people living vicariously through their kids. My girlfriend’s niece is 13 years old and 6’5″ tall, and as a basketball player is constantly getting flak from other parents about how she shouldn’t be in the league she’s in, etc., etc., because their kids don’t stack up.

As for the people who bust on Phelps (and other athletes) for things like their appearance, that’s either a case of sour grapes, or outright insecurity. Phelps, regardless of appearance, is an athlete that stands in a very small company — Lance Armstrong, Jim Thorpe, Jesse Owens, and maybe a handful of others — and for someone to discredit his works because of his appearance is detrimental only to the person making the statements.

    2. Rednecks for Obama = awesome!

    3. Hahahahaha…that was one of my fav LOLCats as well, and I never noticed the “k.” before.

    4. Congrats to Tim.

    5. Amen.
