It’s Not Me - It’s You.

Dear Pownce:
We were getting along so well. A whirlwind courtship developed into a warm friendship that was dependable, reliable and so much fun. I couldn’t wait to see you every day. I got my friends to like you. We did so much together.
But lately, you’ve been distant, unresponsive and, frankly, a jerk. You aren’t there for me when I need you. Instead of your beautiful interface, I get a blank screen. Other times, I don’t even get that - just that there’s some “problem” connecting. That’s really what it boils down to, isn’t it? We just don’t connect anymore. I’ve been trying to work things out with you, and you promised that you would change and we would hang out more. And for a while there, we did. You weren’t as reliable as you once were, but we were able to see each other and my friends were able to hang out with us as well.
Now, it seems you’re slipping back into those old, destructive habits again. Most of my friends are angry and some even hate you for what you’ve done. Others are being patient and are trying to weather the storm. Me? I once had been hopeful that this was just a snag in the otherwise fantastic relationship that would be over soon. Now, I’m not so sure.
When does it get to the point where I just can’t try anymore? We do need to talk - but you’re not returning my calls. It seems the problem is with you, and not me. I haven’t given up on us yet - but I’m also not going to wait forever.
Please call me back!
Hugs,
Carolyn [a.k.a. "blogkitten"]

Excellent post!
I’m getting a bit annoyed with them myself because of the unresponsiveness of the site.

Maybe we need a roundtable discussion for Powncecast…
Carolyn on June 17th, 2008
@Mike: I think that’s a fantastic idea. You interested for the 29th?
Mike L on June 17th, 2008
The 29th sounds good to me!

hah great post. Funny yet so true.

So true.
By the way, if you want another vote for roundtable discussion, go for it. Maybe it’ll get the point across.
I did try to write them a nice, professional letter last night and got a defensive response from Ariel. It was a mixture of cold shoulder and “don’t bother me with such trivial things” attitude that I don’t agree with. Less is not always more, and judging by comments and posts I’ve seen, most users are quite upset with the cold shoulder.
Pownce, I do love you, but I miss you.

@Erin: I think you’d be great on a roundtable - you free the afternoon of 6/29?

Nice post, Carolyn. You always manage to put things nicely where I would be dropping F bombs and spewing vitriol.
The roundtable sounds like a great idea. Maybe even try to rope in someone from pownce.. .if they dare! ;-)
Cheers. - JP

Very well said Carolyn! I’m worried that the damage is done and the community has already jumped ship. When some of the founders are actively touting their participation in other sites, it makes you wonder how committed they are. Without the community and the high profile ceWEBerties to promote the site, what will happen to it?
I’m fairly forlorn about it myself. I already miss the interaction - it was the first social network that really clicked for me (pardon the pun).

A Sunday afternoon? I should be. Granted, I’m not exactly experienced at that sort of thing, but I’m free, as far as I’m aware.
Sorry it took me so long to get back to you. School and whatnot.

Great post Carolyn. I’m being patient with them as well, hoping they get it together and give us the service back that we have grown to love. I’m just happy we have backup places for all of us to keep in touch otherwise i’d go nuts without my friends. I just wish they would put the site at the top of their priority list rather than functions and food. Sure they deserve to have a life of their own but hey, we deserve to get what we paid for as well! :)
