Dear Asshole Business Owner:

Do not fuck with someone who works in a law firm.

Very Truly Yours,
Carolyn

This pretty much sums up my energy levels today:

No, it really wasn't that boring!

But - tonight I’m going to go for a run and make something healthy for supper despite the fact that I’m exhausted. I suppose being on my feet for 12+ hours yesterday saving the world didn’t help matters either.

I need to do some research into why my Nike+ gadget is now making my iPod Nano crash every time I try to use it. Perhaps this is the “battery low” issue? I just don’t have time to look into it - so I’m running “offline” for the time being. I’m getting close to doing 3 miles each workout - so hopefully I’ll be at 5 miles soon!

Latah!

I’ve decided to start using Wordpress tags too. Will I go back to add them to old posts? Oh hell no! Do I look like I need more to do? :-)

Well This Blows.

I have yet to get anything for “Administrative Professionals Day [or Week, as it is in my office]” from the people I support - yet my cube mate has a desk full of gifts and awesome things and other people on the floor are buried in flowers and stuff.

I know it sounds petty and greedy - but dammit, I work my ass off here and I get butkus? Not even a “thank you.”

Harrumph.

Goes with the rest of the day, it seems.

[EDIT] I think I’m just in a bad mood today.  But still, nothing.  :-/

Addendum

I forgot today is “Administrative Professionals Day” or whatever they’re calling it this year. The management at my office do a week-long celebration instead! This is both good and bad.

Today, for example…

…the Good: I got a free chair massage (*dies*) and there was an ice cream social this afternoon.

…the Bad: There was an ice cream social this afternoon.

As a result, I’ve eaten a ton of M&Ms, two scoops of chocolate chip ice cream (with hot fudge, whipped cream and a maraschino cherry), chocolate dipped strawberries and a delectable coconut macaroon cookie. Good thing I’m going to the gym tonight. Egads.

I’ve gotten a gift from the firm already (Target Gift Card…woot!), but nothing yet from my people. This is not unusual as they always do the gift/flowers/whatever they do this year on Thursday. Not sure why!

Happy Secret…err…Administrative Assist….err…Professionals Day!

Bright Sunshiny Day

Yeah, that’s what the weather is doing today. Bright, sunny and awesome. I think today will see me doing my first outside run of the year. Spring is here…

…and I’m loving it. (to borrow from Moss in the IT Crowd)

(seriously a great show - the UK version, that is)

I (like my friend Sande) have been working hard at getting back into my workout routine. The 5-10lb weight gain over the winter needs to go. Like now.

So, to get back into a running routine, I’ve started the Podrunner Intervals “First Day to 5K” series - albeit in week 5, since I already can run for more than 10 min at a time with no problems - and to quote Moss again, I’m loving it! It’s a great series for anyone who wants to start running.

Now, the next set of intervals they’re doing is “Gateway to 8k”, which expands on what you’ve done already in the “First Day to 5K”. I’m really going to stick to these programs to try and get more distance under my belt this summer. Heck, maybe I’ll be able to do a 10k by the end of the summer! Well, body pains notwithstanding, that is.

My foot has been aggravating me lately. I think it’s a combination of the extra weight and the renewed activity is causing some adjustment issues. Also, the weather change has made me realize I don’t own any pairs of cute shoes that don’t kill my feet. I run way too much and walk way too fast to wear snippy snap sandals.

So I need to do some research and see what I could pro deal from Ye Olde Part Tyme Jobbe - they have quite an arsenal of companies to buy from. All I know is that the Target/Payless route for cute shoes is now out of my life for good.

Any of you out there know of any brands that are 1) cute and 2) won’t kill my wide, runner’s feet?

He’s all mine!

Tim compared his butt to the Mona Lisa. That has to be one of the funniest things he’s ever said.

Seriously.

What happens when you take a classic 1999 Ad from Apple featuring Jeff Goldblum and slow it down 30%? Well, wait no more:

[Here's the link for those of you reading this in RSS: Jeff Goldblum Video]

I still laugh uncontrollably. :-D

Took a much needed day off yesterday. Got my haircut (which is super-cute - photos later) and we went rock climbing at Vertical Endeavors. We plan on going once a week (or more) once things settle down around La Casa de Blogkitten.

But today - my tiny, feeble, useless T-Rex like arms are so sore! We really need to go more often than every 6 months! :)

On a health front, I am going to start hammering out the miles on the treadmill, then outside as things warm up, and start really tracking my food/beverage intake. The curse of the Trader Joe’s wine being so available in the house along with Girl Scout cookies and just general not paying attention to what’s been going down my gullet the past month has taken its toll.

And, now that it’s not so dark and dreary out - I’m getting the motivation to kick things into high gear! Wish me luck!

Dear Co-Worker:

When you made the pot of coffee this morning, you neglected to dump the old coffee from yesterday out of the carafe first.  If I wanted to drink a sludgy mixture of yesterday’s coffee with some fresh brewed stuff, I would.  However, I do not want.  As we are all over the age of 4, and you’ve somehow managed to make a pot of coffee (Congratulations!), please don’t do a half-assed job of it.  You will ruin my day.

Thank you,
~C

I Need A Day Off.

The past 3-4 days have been a gigantic blur. From Thursday night until nearly midnight last night (with some breaks in between for working the full time job on Friday and the part time job Saturday morning) I have been hyper-focused on website design and development (amongst other things) on three different projects:

Pink Ninja Studios: Complete site redesign. Hand-coded from scratch (using some great code tutorials). The whole site is around 135kb. Simple and to the point. I love it.

Gaming Clarity: Tim’s video game news and reviews site. I’m *nearly* finished with that one. The menu is still FUBAR in IE. Have I mentioned I hate IE? Speaking of IE…

PownceCast: This is the “secret” project I’ve been working on. It’s the “official” podcast for the social sharing site Pownce. We just launched the website with our first show last night and while the first episode sounds a bit marketing-heavy, that was more because we had to establish pretty much what the hell we were going to do with the show. It’s short (15-20min) and will be released weekly. What’s the coolest about the whole project is the amazing support and collaboration we’ve gotten from the Pownce development team. That’s worth more to me than anything, and I hope we can do them proud … or at least not embarrass them. :-)

The problem with IE with the PownceCast site is that I was using a pre-developed Wordpress theme that was “IE compatible” and modifying the graphics, the CSS, etc. There was just one problem. It wasn’t IE compatible. The site looked like garbage in IE. After fighting with the CSS for 4-5 days (when I wasn’t at work), I decided on Friday that I was just going to completely re-do the layout from scratch, using this theme as an inspiration. So at work, I printed out the existing CSS and on the bus ride home, I started writing out the changes I was going to make to the layout. From there, I worked on it Friday night and pretty much all day Saturday. When it was all completed, I had three different CSS files: the regular CSS, an IE7 specific CSS and a IE6 specific CSS. Not to mention I had to make some adjustments in the regular CSS file once I learned of a rendering discrepancy between Safari on the PowerPC Mac vs. Safari on the Intel Mac vs. Safari on Windows. How can a site look just fine on Safari on the PowerPC Mac (of course, the one I used for testing) and FUBAR on the other two flavors of Safari? Boggles the mind.

I learned more about conditional comments and layout properties in CSS over the past 3 days that I have in the past 3 years! I am mentally exhausted.

Tech Snark (which just got a new theme as well - but one where I did no mods to) should be ramping up again here in the next week or so and my self-imposed hiatus on my freelance writing gig should be done by the end of the week.

I need a day off. Big time. I think I’ll see if I can take Wednesday off.

Food for Thought

So now that Charlton Heston is dead, we can finally take the guns off his cold, dead hands.
