Help a sistah out and Digg this story! Thanks much! :-)
Wild Weekend
July 30th, 2007. Published under General. 3 Comments.
We had an eventful weekend.
Friday evening we went over to Hedgie’s house to grill, hang out and the rest of the crew went to go watch the Simpson’s movie at some late hour. Tim and I headed home as I was going to run in the Hartford Life PACE 5k the next morning with Bree … and we had to be there around 7:30am.
Considering I set my alarm, but neglected to switch it on, I still made it on time, somewhat groggy and somewhat fueled up to run. I also did much better than I had expected since my hip injury earlier this year has been plaguing me. Since we had chips for this race, I got a really accurate time and pace: 31:49 (10:16/mile pace). I couldn’t believe it!
I also discovered that I need to recalibrate my Nike+ gadget as it said I only did 4.8k in the 5k race. So really, I’ve been running more than what my gadget is telling me! Tonight, I’ll recalibrate before my run.
Saturday evening, Tim and I went out to celebrate our 1-year anniversary. It’s hard to believe it’s been a whole year since we first met in person…but I can’t imagine my life without him. To say “life is good” is an understatement. First of many!
Sunday I had to work at the part-time job, then Tim and I hung out catching up on the Tivo recordings, then we went over to his friend’s house to help finish moving. We got home around 8pm and indulged in some Taco Hell for supper as we were both too knackered to get anything else.

Once again, I’m reflecting on my diet. I seem to be hovering around the same weight, regardless of what I do exercise-wise. As a result, I’m going to start really watching what I’m taking in food-wise. I do know that beer and wine will be absent from my intake for quite some time. It’s nothing but empty calories that makes me feel all bloated and crappy.
So, we’ll see how that goes.

Happy Monday.
Finished!

I finished the latest Harry Potter book on the bus on the way home from work today.
All I’m going to say is that the story ended better than I had expected it to. I enjoyed it immensely.
The Eight Things
July 24th, 2007. Published under General. 6 Comments.
I was tagged by…somebody1…over at Pownce over the weekend to answer eight things about myself that you may not know.
Now those of you who’ve known me for years or are a long-time reader of this blog will most likely know a few of these things - but these are for the new friends I’ve acquired off Pownce.
So without further ado…
The Eight Things About Blogkitten
- I was a cheerleader in high school - football and basketball. Yes, I have photographic proof! No, you can’t see them. Bad late 80’s/early 90’s hair is never a good thing.
- Until I was a junior in high school, I had 10 people in my class - then I had 56 when my school consolidated with three other schools in the area. Out of the 10, I was related to 5 of them in one way or another. I come from a very large family.
- I’m a winner of the Louis Armstrong Jazz Award - awarded to me by my peers (I played the alto saxophone). I wish I would’ve kept up with it over the years - but I still have my saxophone in the closet, so there’s still a chance.
- I’ve met my musical idol - and he knows me by name. Because I’m that awesome.
- I’ve always wanted pink hair - but I’m at the age where I would just look stupid and I regret not doing it when I was younger.
- Despite my outgoing nature, I can be a bit of a hermit. I’ve had weekends where I haven’t talked to anybody nor left the house.
- All my web design/graphic design skills are self taught. You can judge for yourself if that’s good or not. ;-)
- I played softball and volleyball all through school and through most of my 20’s - once I hit 30, I started running and I’ve not played either sport since.
I can elaborate on any of these over on my Pownce account.
I’m not tagging anyone else to do it - feel free to do it if you want to.

I need to get out for a run tonight, but with this pollution advisory and my allergies going nutso, I may not be able to. But, considering I’m running in a 5k early Saturday morning and I won’t be able to run on Thursday (Tech Snark recording night) and it’s not a good idea to do a long run the night before a race, I’ll have to get one in either tonight or tomorrow.
Perhaps some Tylenol Allergy & Sinus is in order.
Have a great day!

1 - I can’t remember and I had to go back 5 pages in my friends list to catch up from last night. There’s no way I can find it now!
[edit] Aha! It was Kabren over at Pownce!
Best. Video. Ever.

Dear lord….why can’t we have shows like this here? It’d be a big step up from shows like…well…anything on MTV, that’s for sure.

No Spoilers…

I don’t have the last Harry Potter book yet. I (stupidly) ordered the book from Amazon.com the day after the cut off of having it delivered today and not realizing it until it was too late to cancel the order. Since I recalled Book 6 had shortage issues (from what I remembered) the last time, I thought “well, Wednesday is OK.”
Yeah right.
Tim and I went to Target today to pick up some laundry soap and other things and there were stacks and stacks of Book 7 lying around. I couldn’t even comfort myself at getting the book for $17.99 on Amazon.com because that’s the same goddamn price Target was selling it for.
Now people either 1) have the book and have read it or are damn close to finishing, 2) don’t give a shit or 3) don’t give a shit who they ruin the book for. I’ve been hearing stories about people posting comments in Digg stories - unrelated to HP - spoiling the book. Now over on other community sites that I frequent, there’s spoilers being posted left and right. Thankfully on the sites that allow it, they are being hidden behind cuts.
But seriously. What the hell?
The last time, when Book 6 came out and “________” died … I was spoiled on that. However, that didn’t change my enjoyment nor did it affect the suspense I felt reading the book. Yeah, I knew what was in store, but that didn’t change the journey of reading the book. I enjoy the story…not the tidbits of information.
I’m sure that in the next few days, before I get the chance to read the book in its entirety, that someone, somewhere will find a way to “inform” me of what happens. Unless I turn off all internet communications until I read the book, I’m pretty sure it’s going to happen. However, I’m avoiding Digg - and I may have to avoid a lot of the other communities that I frequent. I really hope I don’t have to abandon Pownce during this time - it’s turned into a fun arena for meeting new people. But that doesn’t change the fact that some people are dickheads.
So as I sit here next to Tim playing … Capcom vs. SNK (blastar wolf!) … I’ll just be happy that I was productive today rather than wasting this beautiful weekend with my nose stuck in a book. Seriously, v.2.0.0 of the Pink Ninja site is looking sick. SICK!
Have a great rest of the weekend.
Welcome to the Weekend!

No 3-day weekend this week. However, it would come in handy as I have quite a list of things to do this weekend.
- Pink Ninja Studios - To Do
- Homepage v.2.0.0 Development/Design
- RSS Feed Widget Customization
- Donations Configuration
- Revise About Page
- Design Buttons/Banners for Promotion
- Store Development
- Commander Tim Cast Administration
- Work at “Ye Olde Part Tyme Jobbe” on Sunday
- General Household Duties (Cleaning, Laundry, etc.)
When I look at it in a list like this, I’m going to be one busy kitten this weekend.

Your quote of the day:
If you want to build a ship, don’t drum up people together to collect wood and don’t assign them tasks and work, but rather teach them to long for the sea.
- Antoine de Saint-Exupery
Seems quite appropriate on a day like today. Have a great weekend!
Well.

Seems that me changing a setting in FeedBurner causes my feed to spit out everything in the feed again. Apologies to those of you who follow through a feed reader.
I’ll most likely be running in the Aquatennial 5k tomorrow night in downtown Minneapolis. We’ll see how my run tonight goes.
Hey! Listen!

I found this t-shirt yesterday….and for those of you who have played any of the Zelda games with the fairy companion, I’ll just warn you now about a ‘Nam-like flashback reaction.

Just breathe normally and the twitching will stop. The description on the product page is golden.
The Final Fantasy nerd in me really wants this shirt, especially after watching Advent Children with Tim and having him ask me every 5 minutes “who’s Jenova?” and “what does the ‘reunion’ mean?” I think I might have piqued his interest in playing the game now. I have two versions of it (one for the PC, one for the PlayStation) so he can take his pick.

After a stressful couple of weeks, I finally got the good news I’ve been hoping for. I’ve also discovered I have an allergy to the adhesive on steri-strips. Nothing more fun than blisters under the strips. Ow.
Mini-family reunion tomorrow at my aunt’s house - should be ok enough. But I have Monday off - the office is closed 1/2 day on Monday, so I took the whole day off. Beats having to drive into work because there wouldn’t be a bus to take me home at noon on Monday.
Have a great weekend everybody!
Are you gonna eat that pickle?
July 11th, 2007. Published under General. 1 Comment.
For some reason, I keep craving those Old Dutch Dill Pickle chips today - but then I had them for supper last night with the burgers we grilled, so perhaps the chip dust infiltrated my nose and is attacking the craving centers of my brain like a roving band of Dill Pickle Chip Ninjas.
What is it with food that creates such intense memories in your brain? Like now, I can almost TASTE those dill pickle chips in my mouth and can smell their tangy goodness and I want some NOW. Other times, I’ll catch a whiff of something and I’ll have a memory attached to that smell and all the feelings and thoughts associated with it come flooding back into my mind. It’s a strange thing.

I’ve discovered what I’m going to be using my Pownce account for: networking for Pink Ninja Studios. What we’re lacking right now is a presence, and in this age of podcasting where you need to reach out and find new listeners, what better way than with the hot new property on the internet block? We’ll see if it translates to new subscribers or not.
