Allergies and Spies

March 7th, 2007. Published under General. No Comments.

Now that I have three cats in the house, my allergies are going haywire again. I’m hoping it’s just temporary while my body gets used to it again. I am researching some options and treatments that I can use to alleviate the symptoms for now. I tried a decongestant, but it made me sick to my stomach, so I’m using the nasal spray my doctor gave me for when my allergies get bad in the spring.

Except it’s not spring yet.

I may stop taking the generic Allegra in exchange for the allergy shots. I need to look into that a bit more, however.

I’m really excited for tonight’s show - but really nervous at the same time. We’re going to have a guest on our show: Mur Lafferty of Geek Fu Action Grip and I Should Be Writing podcasts. She’s also a gamer and will be participating in our discussion on women in gaming.

I’m stoked!

The episode will be up on Sunday the 11th. I’ll post on how well things went on here, most likely.

I’ll leave you with this tidbit I found yesterday.

Steve Jobs, Spymaster

Whether the story is true or not, I think it’s a brilliant idea. I would probably do the same thing if I were in his shoes. Burn the leaker! Heh.

Television Review

Don’t worry, I’m not going to spoil anything for those of you who haven’t watched these shows yet.  But I have to make a statement about both of them.

Battlestar Galactica:  WTF!?!?!?!?!?!?

Heroes:  APRIL 23RD!??!?!?!

Ok…that’s all for now.  Still…dammit on both accounts.

The Power of the Internets

I’m surprised by the attention my post on the wedding planner not getting paid received. I snark about the news all the time and I never got that many responses for any one article. The day after I posted the story, if someone searched for any of the names involved, the couple’s wedding website came up first, then my site with the story second. A huge amount of traffic for this little blog.

There have been people agreeing with me and people supporting the couple. Thanks for the comments - I guess people do read this drivel. :-)

The lazy association people finally dug my front door out Saturday afternoon.

Well, they finally dug my front door out!
Seriously, that’s a big drift. I took a couple other pictures, mainly icicles on the house across the “lawn” from my front door.* * * * *

Today I’m back at work. I have a lot of things I need to get done in the next few days. Namely getting my taxes out because I’m getting a BIG refund from State and Federal. Gotta love homeownership. Also I need to get my research done on the discussion topic (Women in Gaming) we’re going to cover on the next episode of Tech Snark. Since Jennifer is going to be out of town, we’re going to have Tim be our Guest Snarker and join in on the discussion. We record on Wednesday and the episode will be out on Sunday.

I also need to put the finishing touches on the Pink Ninja forum and get the updates made to the homepage. The design bug is biting me really hard right now, and I think I’m going to make a big overhaul of my sites in the next few months.

Things with Chester seem to be going well. I did make the transition to the new litter box and am starting to transition over to the new litter for them. Although the girls don’t know that when Chester is chasing them that he wants to play - not that he’s going to hurt them. They’ll figure it out eventually.

Blur portrait
We’ve also discovered that we need to do more “kitty proofing” in the house. That cat can find his way into everything. Seriously.
Anyway - hope your Monday goes well!

OMFG SNOW: Part II

That’s a lot of drifting

This is the view out my front door.

My best estimate is that’s a 4.5 foot drift out there.

Naturally, it’s almost 1pm and the association goons have yet to come dig me out.

We did dig out the cars and moved all that snow off the driveway by 11am - after the roads in the complex got plowed mid-morning. But considering the last bus leaves the park and ride at 8:20am, and that I was NOT going to drive downtown and pay $18/day to park, I decided to stay home. There was nothing pressing that couldn’t wait until Monday anyway.

Tim had to go in to work today - but that’s an entirely different story. But it’s a bummer.

Got bored and took more kitty photos - more of Chester and the girls. Exciting, I know.

Happy Snow Day!

Dying of the Dumb

March 1st, 2007. Published under General. 13 Comments.

Despite the second coming of the Snow Christ, I made it to work without incident or any slowdowns.

Just when I thought I had a handle on just how dumb people are, I read this story on the Star Tribune website today:

Big-bucks wedding; nada for the planner

Now there’s a few quotes from this article that I’d like to comment on - like the very first sentence.

From the moment Eve Deikel Wendel sat down with wedding planner Susan Gray of Wayzata, she had a grand vision for her $1 million Hawaiian wedding.

Wait…what!? A one MILLION DOLLAR WEDDING?!? Who in the fuck needs to have a million dollar wedding? Well, you’ll see as you read the rest of the article that the bridezilla is a attention-grabbing entitlement whore!

Not only does the bridezilla get married in Hawaii, she doesn’t pay the wedding planner her fee of $21,015. Seriously, some people don’t make that much in a YEAR - however, after reading about this bridezilla, I think the planner should’ve gotten paid more.

[Wedding Planner] received a call from [Bridezilla], saying the bill was “too rich” and demanding, among other things, a credit of 3 cents per mile for the frequent-flier miles [Wedding Planner] received for the two flights the couple paid for her to take to Lanai to plan and attend the wedding.

You have a MILLION DOLLAR WEDDING and you want a 3 cent credit per mile for the airfare?!?! What a cheap witch.

I see that marriage lasting 2 years.
