That was easy!

I’m so sick of getting junk mail - and I’ve even signed up for the “no junk mail” things. Yes, they’re the legitimate ones - not a “ooo! a fresh address to send junk mail to!” farming site.
Yet - I still get the junk - this time from my credit card company. Despite the fact that I told them a few years ago to STOP SENDING ME STUFF - and it worked for a while. I think they must have a short memory - or else my buying a home has pinged them to start SENDING ME STUFF again. Bastards.
Since I’m paranoid about such things - I shred all the stuff I get. Problem is that my shredder is woefully underpowered and can handle 2 unfolded sheets at a time properly. Anything more than that and it grinds and wails and hums like it’s going to explode or seize up at any second. So all my junk mail I have to open and feed through 1-2 sheets at a time to obliterate it. Don’t get me started about the fake credit cards they throw in there.
Enter this new product: The MAILMATE Junk Mail Shredder
For less than $70 ($50 if you count the rebate - which you can do online when you purchase it), I can just take the envelope - fake credit cards, staples, paper clips and up to 10 folded sheets of paper - and feed it into the hungry, junk mail destroying rows of sharp teeth. Like a Sarlacc with a fresh Gamorrean Guard thrown into its depths.
Yes - I know I’m a nerd for using Star Wars references as a simile to a paper shredder.
Anyway - it ties into my office supply fetish AND my disgust and loathing for junk mail. And with the free, one-day shipping - I don’t know what else a girl could want!
Well, it could be delivered by Ewan McGregor in a kilt…but that’s just me.
Isn’t it supposed to be March?

Yesterday it was 81 degrees here in Minneapolis.
Eighty. One. Degrees.
As a result, I got my first outdoor run of the season out of the way! Since it was the first “off the treadmill” run of the season, I only ran just short of 2 miles. That first non-treadmill run is a killer. I do run faster off the treadmill, however, and my overall average minutes/mile have dropped below 12:00 now.
I wish the Nike+ thing had the feature to indicate when you’re running as opposed to walking. When I start and end my runs, I walk for 2-4 minutes and that really screws up my average pace listing. In all reality, I’m between a 11:00 and 10:30 minutes/mile pace. And I really haven’t been training that hard yet.
My goal for this year is to run that 10k that I wanted to do last year. Now that we’ve gotten a gym membership at the new Fitness 19 that opened up near our house, it’ll really help having more than just a treadmill/running outside to get in condition for the 10k.
It’ll be back down to the 40’s (normal temperature for this time of year) by the weekend. Oh well, I’m going to enjoy the awesome weather while it lasts!

I love it when people take movies/movie trailers and re-edit them to give them a different feel/tone. One of my favorites is the one where they took The Shining and made it seem like a lighthearted, romantic comedy.
Then, via Drivl, I found this gem today:
Office Space…as a thriller. Brilliant!
How Appropriate.

I have the Loverboy song “Working for the Weekend” stuck in my head today.
Although I do suppose it’s better than the “Hit Me Baby One More Time” that got stuck after I unfortunately walked into Subway and it was on the radio, the four days of the theme from “Green Acres”, or the internet parody “N****r Stole My Bike” (video NSFW, for the obvious language items) made off the training montage from the “Mike Tyson’s Punch Out” video game for the NES.
Seriously, that last song is not a song you want floating around in your head for two days - especially when I start humming it at my desk. Embarrassing!
What songs have been stuck in YOUR head lately?

An update on the cats - they’ve all adjusted to each other, for the most part. Chester and Pixel play a lot now - it looks like a couple of pre-teen girls slapping each other silly. :-)
Going to clean the hell out of the house this weekend before and after my parents come up Saturday afternoon and leave Sunday afternoon. They haven’t been up for a visit in a while - so it’ll be nice to see them.
Have a great weekend!

If you do nothing else today, watch this episode of This Week In Death:
I love it! But then, TWID is on the network, so perhaps I’m biased. ;-)

I have such a geek crush on Alton Brown.
And I’m so lusting after this DVD set:

It’s the entire “Feasting on Asphalt” series with bonus disc with tons of extras AND a free Viewmaster!! It’s so dorky that I’m must have it!
You can only buy it from Food Network Store - and goddamn am I tempted to pick it up!
Geek crushes FTW!
My new favorite site.

A comment on this story: Gawd she’s vile. I bet her vagina is like the Sarlacc pit in Return of The Jedi.

I had a discussion with a friend today about personal relationships.
She just had a falling out with a long-term friend and the topic came up of what one would do if things started to devolve into nasty behavior.
It’s taken me a couple of years and a lot of work - but I’m of the mindset of to just let things go, no matter how nasty someone gets. I’ve always had a long fuse, and I’m quite a forgiving person - but there have been times where I was deliberately been snotty to someone who slighted me in some way, shape or form. I’ve also deliberately stirred things up just to get back at someone or to get a reaction out of them.
Not anymore.
The way I look at it - the momentary satisfaction is offset by the long, lingering consequences of that action. So, I bite my tongue and ignore it. Half the time, the silence has a better result.
What I don’t understand is why people can’t let go of things - why they hang onto their perceived slights and wrongs like their life depended upon it. What good does it do? You’re never completely right about how things happened - situations aren’t always black or white. Life is a big mess of gray with tiny bits of black and white thrown in. Get over it, get over yourself and move forward. If there’s someone in your life who contributes nothing but negativity to your life - then why are you so determined to keep them a part of it? It’s not selfish to put your own best interests in front of others - especially if the interests of others are destructive.
Life’s too short to be surrounded by people who don’t give a crap.
I should write Hallmark cards. LOL.
Somebody got their hair cut!

I like how this one turned out

It ended up being shorter than I had expected…but I love how it turned out. I have a set of all the pictures I took of the new ‘do.
What do you think?
I would love to sleep in this weekend.

But, that’s not going to happen, methinks.
On top of all the stuff for Tech Snark that I’m working on, I still have a ton of time consuming programming and designing that I have to finish for Pink Ninja Studios, I still need to finish the last-minute details on a paying client’s website, I need to get my hair cut (since it hasn’t been done since November) and start/finish a project that I promised for someone over at MPR* that has a deadline of Monday the 12th.
Honestly, it all needs to be done this weekend.
Thank god I don’t work the part-time job this weekend, that’s all I gotta say.
The hair appointment is for 8am on Saturday (only time I could get) so no sleeping in there. I might have gotten to sleep in on Sunday - but not only is it daylight savings time (spring ahead!) but we set up a Pink Ninja team meeting for 11am. Nice planning, Carolyn!
The network stuff is going very well, and as time has been rolling along, there’s a distinct demarcation of who’s really invested in the success of the network and who is just along for the ride. I don’t really want to get into it on here, but it’s very disheartening to see something you’ve worked so hard for months on dismissed like it’s a piece of garbage. I realize to put yourself out there in the public eye will leave you wide open to negativity and criticism. However, to hear it from your own camp - that does exponentially more damage than anything a random person says.
I really need a vacation. Good thing we’re taking one the end of April!
Now I need to find someone to take care of the kitties while we’re gone for a week. *sigh*
It never ends. :-/
