OMFG Snow!!
February 28th, 2007. Published under General. No Comments.
We’re supposed to get another round of snow tonight - meaning we’re supposed to get anywhere from 11-13 inches of snow.
You would think the the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse were riding over the horizon or that an asteroid the size of Rhode Island is headed to the Earth and we’re the bullseye of the impact site.
Really. It’s just snow.
The past 5-6 years or so, there hasn’t been a lot of snow here in the winter. But come on, this is Minnesota! The Great White North! The Icebox of the World! We’re supposed to be able to handle, no, thrive on snow! We eat icicles for breakfast and bowls of frozen polar bear balls for dinner! A measly foot of snow is something we should scoff at!
Instead everyone is panicking and crying for their mommies.
Buncha wimps.
It’s hilarious that in this news article that they have to tell people to NOT use their cruise control in slippery/icy road conditions. Perhaps I’m just too logical to think that one was a given. I’m pretty pleased with my car’s ability to switch from an automatic to a manual transmission - I’ve been using the manual quite a bit with the crappy roads. But using CRUISE CONTROL on ice?! That just doesn’t make sense.
All I hope is that I can stay home tomorrow because I’m snowed in. That would RULE!

I went to the walk-in clinic at Target yesterday afternoon because the headache I had all day was joined by pain in my left ear! Goody! I figured it was a sinus infection, so I went in. Turns out it wasn’t quite to a sinus infection, but if I had let it go a bit longer, then it would’ve developed into one. So she told me to take a decongestant with pseudoephedrine (you know, the evil stuff that people use to make meth and that you have to go to the pharmacy counter to buy?) in it to take the pressure off my sinuses. She also said that I needed to take it for at least a week, maybe more.
So I bought Alavert 12 hour and took a dose of that around 3:00 yesterday afternoon. I went out with my Tech Snark co-hosts for dinner/discussion and I had one beer. By the time I got home around 9:30, I was exhausted and went right to bed. Tim was out with our friend Joe and I didn’t even hear him come home. That pseudoephedrine just zonks me out - and I’m sure the beer didn’t help either. I won’t be drinking anything else while I’m on this stuff!
Keep your fingers crossed for a snow day!
This Is The Wrong Day For This…

If I have to listen to this circular saw buzzing through whatever solid object it’s trying to cut all day, I think I may have to kill somebody in this office. Perhaps the guy with the buzzsaw.
I have such a headache right now and I can’t even blame it on having too much fun last night.
I think I’m getting stressed out over the showdown of the kitties over at the OK Corral.
[cue Ennio Morricone music here]
Things are slowly getting better - Chester’s not hiding out under the stairs anymore and I believe he’s using the litter box ok and isn’t starving. The girls aren’t too sure about this arrangement yet, but I’m hopeful that’ll end soon.
Last night we went to PetSmart to get an uncovered litter box (because Chester’s never used the covered “Booda Dome” before and we need to train him to use it) and we’ll gradually get him using the covered one. However, since we now have three cats, I’m thinking of getting this litterbox instead because it is bigger than the Booda Dome, yet still covered enough so Pixel can dig her way to China*. Maybe switch to a environmentally friendly litter too since Chester seems to track the scoopable stuff all over the house.
We did buy them all some catnip last night and they all got baked - it was hilarious to watch.
But yeah - stress in the house right now. Good times.
I need a vacation…or a massage. I think I’ll try to get a massage tomorrow night after work.
* Pixel is very thorough in burying her stuff. She’ll dig and scrape the walls of the covered box for 10 minutes if she gets in a groove.
Eddie Murphy: Whiny Ass Brat
February 26th, 2007. Published under General. 5 Comments.
I just read this story about how, after losing the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor to Alan Arkin (who I’m pleased as hell won it), Eddie Murphy left “in a huff” with his girlfriend.
Oh please Eddie. You languish in obscurity, lending your voice to an animated donkey (amongst other things) and you basically played yourself in a movie musical and you’re pissed because some better actor won. Hell, if Arkin hadn’t won, then anyone else in the category would’ve beat you out - especially Mark Wahlberg.
So STFU and go back to making Shrek 3.

This is a picture of Tim’s car and the super-cool drifting that happened with the snow storm we had yesterday. Nature is a wonder sometimes.
I’m also playing around with the “blog this” feature of Flickr (obviously). I may use it more in the future.
Hope my local friends got dug out of their places too.

He’s not really that evil

I inadvertantly used the flash on this one, which is why he looks evil. He’s sweet as can be, though.
Naturally there’s hissing fights going on and Roxy is none too pleased.
Oh well, they’ll get along eventually. :-)
Temps are Fun!

I’ve realized that one’s job satisfaction stems a lot from the people you work with.
I love my job - I really do.
Since Wednesday, however, my “cube mate” has been on vacation and will be until next Wednesday. In her place has been an administrative floater.
This woman, whom I’ll call Floaty, is driving me fucking batshit crazy.
To begin, just from my initial contact with her, I knew she wasn’t too bright. But my initial analysis only scratched the surface to how dumb she really is. In the past 2 days, we’ve had the following:
- Excessive personal phone conversations that would go on for at least 15-20 minutes.
- Loud cell phone ringer1 that goes off ALL THE TIME.
- Asking me where to print large print jobs2.
- Asking me why the printer is blinking and saying “load paper tray 4″3 and not printing her way too large print job4.
- Telling me that she’s “scared” of the person she’s serving after being at the desk for less than a half hour. This guy is not scary, he just moves fast and wants his shit done NOW. Considering he’s the only person she’s serving in this role, then yeah, do the shit NOW. In all reality he’s quite funny and isn’t an asshole at all.
- Asking me where the kitchen is5.
Now the notes for the above:
- Common courtsey for cell phones in the workplace is to turn them off, turn the ringer down low or put them on vibrate. Not play a stupid fucking song as loud as it can be played.
- We have an entire group, staffed by over 20 people, who do these things for you. It’s one of the very first things I was shown when I started and I used them MINIMUM once a week - and I don’t have a high volume of paper type work to print out.
- Are you kidding me?
- She held up the printer for our quarter of the floor with a 500+ page document. One that ran the printer out of paper and she never bothered to check on the damn thing.
- Not only is every floor laid out in a similar fashion, we have a office directory with INTERACTIVE MAPS that show you where EVERYTHING IS.
Now the kicker is that she’s been here for OVER THREE YEARS.
*head desk*
Add on top of that her inane blathering about anything and nothing, it’s really grating on my nerves. At least I only have to deal with her for a few more days.
Seriously.

We may have to wait until next weekend to get Chester, with the snow storm pending. I really don’t want to drive 4 hours round trip in a snow storm - which would take longer if there’s a snow storm.
I very happy that I’m able to provide him with a good home. Last night, I was watching TV and they had one of those commercials for the Humane Society about adopting cats and dogs and I felt very good that I’m taking care of Chester. We got him from the Humane Society in the first place, funny enough.
I have such a hard time going to PetsMart and going by the adoption center. Sure, the kittens are adorable, but they’ll get adopted. What breaks my heart are the 3+ year old cats who were put there due to one circumstance or another. They’re the ones I want to take home because you can see it in their eyes that they had been in a home and had that companionship of another person, and now it’s something they want back desperately. Last time I went by the adoption center, I cried over it.
I must be becoming a softie in my old age.
Anyway, thank gawd it’s Friday.
I’m the Healthiest Eater in the Land!
February 22nd, 2007. Published under General. No Comments.
I had for lunch:
- Au Bon Pain corn muffin (460 calories)
- Small bottle of Starbucks Vanilla Frappuccino (200 Calories)
They were both breakfast leftovers that I snagged. Considering I had a breakfast of a Nutrigrain bar (120 calories) - that’s not bad for the day.
Ok, so perhaps I’m not the healthiest eater - but at least I didn’t have the Crack Danish*.
* * * * *
My one fear about Chester was alleviated when I found out he’s had a sister for the past 2 years; an “11 yr old female long haired attitude induced cat, and they are best of friends.”
Attitude induced? Well, then Roxy won’t be a problem then!
We could have him as early as Sunday. I can’t wait!
[EDIT] *-I just went and checked the calorie content for the Crack Danish (Sweet Cream Cheese Danish to normal people) and it’s only 380 CALORIES!! Well goddamn, I’m eating that from now on.
Chester and the Lenty Catholics
February 22nd, 2007. Published under General. 1 Comment.
Somehow I totally missed that yesterday was Ash Wednesday. I guess it shows that I don’t work with a bunch of Catholics.
At my last job, I’d see co-workers with the ash smudge on their forehead and that helped remind me that it was now Lent.
Not that I’ve observed Lent for, oh, 16 years now.

After much thought and deliberation, I am going to take Chester in.
I’ve had to deal with three cats in one house before, so it should be fine. He’s not a dominant cat by any means - so Roxy will be fine - and Pixel adapts well to new situations so she’ll be fine too. I’m a bit miffed that anyone would think that I would ever consider swapping either of my girls out for Chester. Whether it was meant to be funny or not, it certainly wasn’t necessary nor was it appreciated.
So yeah…three furballs in the house soon!
I’ll have to do more vacuuming and buying one of those little flip lid (where you have to step on the little pedal to open it) garbage cans for the bathroom because Chester always would dig the Q-tips out of the garbage and eat the cotton off of them. That’s probably not good for a cat’s digestive system. I’ll have to ask K about any other quirks the cat has just so I can accommodate them. I hope he’s not a “eat all the food until it’s gone” type of cat. He never used to be, from what I can remember.

For those of you who’ve heard me complain about and then sing the praises of CSS, the following article cracked me up. The reason? I once spent a weekend trying various incarnations of how to do rounded corners using CSS.

My Body Is Falling Apart
February 21st, 2007. Published under General. 5 Comments.
I’m on the downslope of a really painful past few days.
I had a stiff and sore right trapezius muscle from about Thursday of last week that I neglected to take care of. As a result, it developed into quite a substantial knot by Sunday. I woke up Monday morning to discover that it messed up my back to a very painful state.
About 10 years ago, I was the passenger in a car accident where the end result was the car flipping and resting on its roof. We both had seat belts on, but the force of getting jerked around threw my back out of alignment - basically the 4th and 5th thoracic vertebrae were not lined up anymore.
As a result, that juncture is more vulnerable to getting thrown out of whack by muscular tension/problems.
Which is what happened to me while I slept Sunday night.
I woke up Monday morning with pain so bad I stayed home from work. Considering I’m a “tough it out” type of person, this was not good.
So after some IcyHot, bouts with the heating pad and a hot shower, it relaxed enough so I could at least work yesterday. It’s still sore, but at least the knot is gone.
Note to self: don’t ignore your muscles again.
So now I’ve fallen behind with my running “goal” from the Nike+ site - but I should be able to run tonight if I do the hot shower/IcyHot combination afterwards.
Nothing sexier than the smell of IcyHot. I really need to find a chiropractic office where they sell Biofreeze - because not only does it smell way better, it works better than IcyHot.
I heard from my first ex-husband yesterday through the blog (small world!) and he has to find a home for our cat Chester. He got to keep Chester when we split up because despite the fact that Chester was more my kitty, I didn’t know where I was going to end up at the time and moving him around a lot would be highly unfair to him.
I’d take him in a heartbeat if I was sure the other two cats would be ok with it. Pixel probably would - Roxy probably would not. Another fact to consider is that Chester has been an “only cat” since we brought him home from the Humane Society in 1999, so I’m not sure how he’d react to having new sisters.
I’m going to check with my family because he is a sweet cat (from what I remember - it’s been 6 years since I’ve seen him), but hopefully he’ll find a good home. If you’re in the area and would be willing to take care of a sweet orange tabby, let me know
Free Viagra Ringtones!
February 16th, 2007. Published under General. 3 Comments.
According to all the comment spam I receive, I need lots and lots of the following:
- Viagra
- Xanax
- Free Ringtones
- Insurance
I seriously get around 100 spam comments a day on this blog. Which is way more than my readership, I think. Seriously - who either believes these things or thinks that they’ll work? It’s no fun having to go through the comments held for moderation (something I have set in my WordPress options - I have to approve a comment once, then the poster can comment without approval) to make sure nobody gets marked as spam accidentally.
Yum.
Although, the pasta soaked up more of the liquid than I had anticipated, so it was a bit dry - so next time I’ll use more wine and pasta water. But damn was it tasty. Measurements? Who measures things? Not this kitten.
No, I didn’t take a picture of the dish - I’m not one of those people.
TGIF, everybody!
