There goes the weekend!

October 31st, 2006. Published under General. No Comments.

The latest incarnation of the Final Fantasy series comes out today: Final Fantasy 12.

Other than Final Fantasy 11 (I refuse to play a MMORPG) and the new Final Fantasy 3 for the DS (the Japanese version that never made it to the US back in the day - *drool*), I believe I have every release* of the Final Fantasy games made.

So now, today is the day I get my pre-ordered copy of the game! After switching shifts with a co-worker at REI, I now have Friday night off and I wasn’t scheduled on Saturday. Since Tim works on Saturdays, I’m going to have a lot of time to myself to spend playing the new game - and I so cannot wait. I just hope the PS2 (the old one, not the newer version) that I have now will hold out from dying to let me play this game. It’s bad enough I can’t play PS1 games on it anymore.

However, since Sony announced the release of a “limited edition” PS2 that is silver for the holiday season, now may be the time to pick one up. We’ll see.

* - not every incarnation of every release; most of mine are PS1 ports or re-releases on later hardware.

Yee-haw!!

I start the new job (JP2, for those of you interested) on Monday the 13th. I decided to take the more challenging job at the law firm and I can’t wait to begin.

The best part is that instead of them matching the salary, I’m getting a “signing bonus” instead. Who gets those, other than professional ball players? Heh.

Got everyone of importance told here and now comes the process of getting all the projects I’m in the middle of finished before I go. I at least owe my people that much. Have I mentioned that I can’t wait to start?

So thanks for the good job thoughts, everyone!

Now that’s a dilemma!

October 27th, 2006. Published under General. 2 Comments.

Well, it’s down to JP1 and JP2 - they both made me offers!

If JP2 can match the salary of JP1, then I will go with them - if not, then I’m not so sure. Probably still go with JP2.

I mean, do you take the job with the most potential and the most opportunity for failure or the easy job? I think I want the potential.

Fingers crossed!

Fonts are FUN!

In lieu of any news on the job front to report, I direct you to this article:

America’s Most Fonted: The 7 Worst Fonts

Quote: “It drives me insane when people use really heavy script fonts to add a ‘personal touch’ to their e-mail signatures–like, ‘Look! It’s like I really signed it! Even though it’s on a computer!’ Hey, wow. You’re pretty clever.”

The whole thing made me chuckle so hard I snorted. That garnered a few looks! Heh.

[EDIT] Read the comments too….dear god! The laughing!

It’s come down to this…

October 25th, 2006. Published under General. 3 Comments.

I truly hate the management at my job. Let me count the ways…

  1. My opinions aren’t important.
  2. Any issues that are brought up are either 1) ignored or 2) trivialized like I’m some horrible employee who loves to stir up the “drama”.

I could go on, but I’m sure you get the picture. It’s exhausting and it’s bullshit.

If recent events weren’t enough to cause me to want to leave, the combination of having to force myself to come to work (where today we have another pointless meeting to go to) and the email from my inept supervisor talking down to me like I’m some 2-year-old who made a mess in her pants.

If there ever was a time where internet acronym usage were appropriate, this is one of those times.

WTF!?!

But on the bright side, the interviewing has been going swimmingly. Job Prospect #1 (JP1) should be making a decision by tomorrow. I had two interviews (four if you count the impromptu coffee meeting I had with their HR department and the lunch I went on with one of the employees) and they went amazingly well. This one would be for a “Client Service Assistant” in a tax department. I’m not too excited about that part, but the company and the people in that department are SO laid back and not so much the “Type A Overachiever Squad!” that I have now.

I had an interview yesterday with JP2 and met with just about everyone I would need to meet in order to work there. I also had a typing test where I discovered that I can type 71 words per minute with a 99.7 percent accuracy. Dude!

Anyway, this position would be a “Legal Assistant” at a large law firm in a very small department within the firm. I think the two people who I would be working for were very excited about me as well. After meeting with them, I’m really excited about the position too. Then, about an hour after I got back to the office, the HR person from JP2 called wanting a copy of my references. That’s a really good sign, methinks!

So, keep your fingers crossed for the Blogkitten! She needs a little good job karma today!

So yeah, enough is enough with this place.

Who’s got two thumbs and doesn’t give a crap?

I start another week at the job that I’m trying to leave.

I’m finding myself with a small problem: I just don’t give a crap anymore.

Despite working my ass off (under more than adverse conditions), it became quite clear to me last week that it won’t matter what I do around here, I’ll still be considered “expendable”. I got chastised because I wasn’t doing one little thing (random filing, something that is not important to the everyday, truly important work to do around here) regardless of the super-human workload management that I’ve been doing in its place. It’s a matter of the fact that no matter what quality of a job that I do, it will never be recognized or compensated. You could be the ideal, model employee or you could be a complete slacking loser and your raise every year will be the same no matter what you do.

But I’ve had some great interviews and have high hopes to some offers heading my way yet this week - so hopefully I won’t have to work so hard to give a crap around here anymore. Why should I be loyal to a company that treats its employees like they do? Beats me!

* * * * *

I’ve been quite lax on my exercise and nutrition regieme lately - and I’m starting to notice the effects. I’m probably not going to be fit to live with, but the junk food and eating out is going to stop - and I am unanimous in this*. Forthwith and such.

I know it’s the change of seasons that’s causing me to become more couch-potatoey and crave those bad-for-you comfort foods that I love. Not good, not good.

So, after a good run on the treadmill tonight, I’m going to sit down with my cookbooks and recipes to see what new items I can add to the ol’ diet without making me weigh 800 pounds by Xmas.

Update on Asshattery

October 17th, 2006. Published under General. No Comments.

I called the property management company and I won’t be liable for the charges since I didn’t own the property at the time of the storm damage.

SWEET!

All I have to do is call the closing company and they’ll take care of everything.

The Rat Race

October 17th, 2006. Published under General. No Comments.

Well, the job front is really picking up.

Had an initial phone interview with a “leading telecommunications company” for a position there. I would really love to have a job like that where I support only ONE person. And it would be about $12,000 more per year than what I’m making now. Oh yeah.

Granted, jobs aren’t always about the money, but by Gord it sure helps!

They say the job is fast paced - but I don’t know how it could be any faster than this one. Egads. I have 12 fast paced people who want me to do everything for them. Doing everything for one person would be a breeze.

The thing is, this is the type of position I’ve wanted for years, one where I can just focus on one person’s schedule and duties and be the “right hand” for that person. I would love to do that for one of the partners here now - but it’s just not possible.

I go in to meet with them Thursday morning, and if that goes well, sometime on Friday.

The other opportunity, I have interviews set for Friday and Monday. I’m 99% sure that I will get this one - but I would much rather get this other one.

Today is Tim’s birthday! We’re going out tonight to celebrate and we both have tomorrow off to spend the day together! It’s going to be awesome.

Asshattery!

A question to all my friends:

I received in the mail a bill from my association in the amount of $250 $275! to “cover the amount of damages not paid by insurance” in regards to severe storm damage that the buildings/etc. of my townhome complex received in August/September 2005.

I bought my townhome in January 2006.

Does the responsibility of paying the $250 bill fall on me? Or does the asshat who owned the unit prior to me have to pay this.

I don’t think that I should have to pay since I didn’t own the property at the time of the damage. However, I have no idea how these things work.

Ideas? Answers? Bueller?

The weekend was a good one, for the most part. The grind of the second job is starting to wear on me, especially since my supervisor there is an idiot and can’t read that I only am willing to work one weeknight and one weekend day per week.

She scheduled me the week of October 22: Sunday, Tuesday night, Friday night and Saturday.

WTF?

And this working every fucking Friday night is getting REALLY old. So now I have to compose an email to the Assistant Store Manager - the one who hired me with that agreement in scheduling - to ask “WTF” in a nice way why I’m working so much.

If they can’t adhere to what was agreed upon when I was hired, then they’ll be without their one “experienced” hire in the store. Fuck that noise. As much as I like the store (and the discount), I can also walk away from it quite easily.

But, with the holidays coming up, I really doubt they can afford to lose me. I guess we’ll see.

The interview went VERY well on Friday - should be hearing more from them this week! Woo!

The latest Widget Minneapolis show should be up later tonight/tomorrow. We recorded it last Wed - but between lots of other things, Tim hasn’t had the chance to get it edited and up on the feed.

Well!

I have an interview today - wish me luck!
