A blog about me, not kittens

Vacation, all I ever wanted.

I keep trying to formulate a post to encompass the whole of my vacation – but now that I’m back at work, it’s becoming harder and harder to get a free moment to myself. So I decided that they don’t pay me enough around here to work this damn hard, so I’m taking a break to write about the last 10 days.

In a nutshell, the vacation was amazing.

Friday the 1st I spent being a giant bum and doing as little as possible around the house. Well, I did clean and straighten up a bit, but nothing too taxing.

Saturday was torture while I waited to go to the airport to pick up Tim. Methinks I missed him a bit!

Ok, it was a lot!

Anyhoo, we went to Sawatdee again and had some delicious Thai food – including the Spring Rolls – and went home to crash for the night.

Sunday took us down to my sister’s house for a family dinner and we had a blast. We drove back that same night rather than stay overnight at my parent’s house because we wanted to go to the State Fair on Labor Day.

Drivin' in my car

Monday: The Fair. I know now that I do eat healthy because the vast quantities of fried goodies we had at the Fair knocked us both on our asses so much that we literally ate lettuce for dinner just to counteract the grease.

We each had an order of cheese curds (Mouth Trap, natch) and shared fried green tomatoes, mini donuts and a chocolate malt. Made the mistake on going on the “spin-you-around-to-make-you-vomit” rides. No, I didn’t vomit, but I felt horrible afterwards. Ugh. Perhaps I’m too old for those rides now!

*shakes fist* NOOOOOOO!

Tuesday we went out to get Tim some new glasses, since his prescription was woefully out of date and he also wanted to get some snazzy new frames. I had a coupon for Lens Crafters, so we went there.

Nice glasses

They’re blue! How awesome are they?

I got a pair of prescription sunglasses – which I’ve needed for years – at the same time too. They’re Ray-Bans and I don’t have a picture of them.

Wednesday was the great exploration of Downtown Minneapolis.

Giggles

Since we got such a late start, the plan to explore Downtown and Uptown was scratched for just a Downtown jaunt. After wandering around and having some lunch at one of the local Irish pubs we went to Gameworks to have some mad video game action. I totally ruled on the racing games (sorry sweetie!) and sucked on the shooters.

On Thursday, Tim had an interview, so I hung out at a coffee shop while he was there. I ended up having to field a call from work during that time – so I suppose if I were to be interrupted, that was a good time to do so. We celebrated afterwards at Old Chicago and wandered around Uptown for a bit.

Friday was a day of laziness around the BlogKitten house capped off by dinner with friends in Uptown again. We called it a night somewhat early because of the team triathlon I was participating in the following morning.

(I’ll make a separate post for that experience)

After the race, we headed back to the house to get everything rounded up to take Tim back to the airport. While at the airport, we made the decision to extend his trip one day, so we headed back to the house and snuggled and watched Firefly episodes all afternoon. It was wonderful.

Sunday, I took Tim to Bryant Lake Bowl (yes, it’s a bowling alley – but a fucking cool one) for breakfast and we spent the rest of the morning hanging out and headed to the airport that afternoon. The great thing is that Tim will be out here very, very soon so we won’t have to deal with this whole “being apart” thing any longer. I so cannot wait.

Like I’ve said before…life is good, oh so very good.
