2006 Get In Gear 5k
Time: 31:05 31:07 (official time)
Personal best time, regardless of the rain. Quite proud. Did not rest once!
Running woes!

I just was getting all the information together for the race tomorrow and I discovered one item: I can’t pick up my packet tomorrow morning like I assumed (since every other race I’ve been in has been like that) - but I have to pick it up sometime between noon and 8pm tonight.
One problem: I didn’t drive today. So I’m not sure how I’m going to pick that up - unless I convince my co-worker to drive me down there after work. I’d take the light rail down to the Minnehaha station, but I think the Pavillion is nowhere near the light rail station. Also, since my boss is taking me out to lunch today, my lunch hour is already shot.
Fuck!
Oh well, I guess I’ll have to figure something out.

[Edit - 20 min later]
I just checked the weather report - it’s going to be in the mid to upper 50s and raining. Ick!!
Straight Flush.

Most times, I really enjoy going to company events. Other than today.
It’s the annual “casino night” - and last year, I didn’t have too much fun. Probably because of a number of factors - but I just did not have a good time.
Tonight, I don’t want to go for a number of factors. One, I would have to drive, park and limit myself to one drink so I can drive home. Second, I have a 5k to run in the morning, and after the cosmo debacle a few weeks back, I don’t want to repeat the mistake. Thirdly, I just don’t want to go.
I’m going to instead go to happy hour with a co-worker, she’s going to drive me home and I’ll show her the new townhouse (since she hasn’t seen it yet) and await 2/3 of Geek Night (or 1/2 of Game Night) to show up for movies. Nothing too exciting, which is just how I want it.

I watched this week’s episode of Scrubs last night - and oh my god was it a good one. Good in a “holy shit, this is a comedy and they pulled such depth and emotion out of it” type of way. It’s no lie that John C. McGinley (Dr. Cox) is my favorite character on the show - and he had me in tears last night. Tears of sad. Damn.

Oh! I have a date for Tuesday night! Goodness!
A whole lotta love…

Netflix has messed up my Friday night plans!
I was planning on watching Mystery Science Theater 3000: Prince of Space tomorrow night, but Netflix won’t have it delivered to me until Saturday.
Saturday!!
So I guess I’ll watch either Spirited Away or Iron Monkey tomorrow night - either alone or if people actually show up at my door. Will be a somewhat early night since I have the Get In Gear 5k to run early Saturday morning.
Stupid Netflix. I wanted to see the bad Japanese rip off of Flash Gordon with bad dubbing so damn bad!! Dammit!

I have some good developments on the dating front. That’s all I’m going to say about it for now, lest I jinx it with my stupidity. :-)

It’s supposed to be gorgeous today and I’ve already lost the will to live at work. Doesn’t help that my co-worker M is sicker than a dog and CAME TO WORK. Seriously - keep your germs at home!!
So I better not catch it from her, dammit. That’s all I need is a fucking cold.

The zipper on my “commuter bag” broke - so I have to pick up another one at Target today - dammit!
Self Reviews.
April 26th, 2006. Published under General. 5 Comments.
I don’t think I’ve ever iterated just how much I hate the idea and the process of “self-reviews”.
First off, the idea of a “self-review” puts the work of doing a review directly on the shoulders of the reviewee, and not the reviewer. Is it just me, or isn’t the idea of having a review supposed to include the reviewer actually giving you a review?
All they reviewer has to do is use the items you brought up and either agree or disagree with them.
Secondly, how in the hell are you supposed to fill these out? You don’t want to downplay what you’ve done through the past year, but then you don’t want to toot your own horn too loudly or make up shit like “saved the world by reducing paper clip waste” because the perception is in the eye of the beholder.
Or something like that.
Hey…I could use that in my self-review: effectively mixed metaphors with great accuracy.
Heh.
Finally - what does the self-review do other than waste the reviewees’ time? I already know what I’ve done this year! I was there! Why do I have to rate how well I did my stuff?
Also, why do a review at all when, regardless of my performance, I will get a 3% raise anyway?
Seriously. I think this was Middle Management’s way of getting out of even more work so they can have more time be anal retentive and nit-picky with how many file folders I have on my desk.
Bah!

I finally uploaded the photos from my bathroom remodel and bedroom redecorating.
Here’s the album for the bathroom:
Here’s the album for the bedroom:
View my handiwork and be jealous! My co-worker M said that my bedroom looked like a “Pottery Barn ad”.
Sweet.

Friday night was very uneventful as there was no Geek/Game night - or movies for that matter. I really need to get more Kung-Fu movies from Husband, though. I am definitely hooked.
Got up somewhat early on Saturday and drove down to my sister Marion’s house in my hometown for our family’s Easter dinner. Had a lot of fun.
My brothers have restarted their campaign to get me to play City of Heroes now that City of Villans has come out. “We neeeeed you!” they cry.
Remember, I’m the baby of the family - Ron’s 37 and Pat’s 45.
So I find it hilarious that they keep pressuring me so much. Although they’re quite excited that my nephew Nate (who is 11) is now getting into D&D. They’re going to have him go to their weekly gaming nights when they play D&D.
I’m safe from the CoH and CoV push for now, because my PC tower is woefully underpowered to play the game. I haven’t upgraded anything other than the CD burner since January 2002, and nothing was high-end at that time either. I’ll eventually upgrade everything - but I have bigger fish to fry right now than spend $300 upgrading my computer. I do want to get it up to speed for when Neverwinter Nights II comes out in a few months.
I stayed overnight at my Mom and Dad’s farm - which was nice. Had an awesome breakfast (won’t go into detail because it’s a weird and potentially disgusting combination), saw all the new baby kittens (and I am just about dead from the cuteness) and got a large bag of fresh asparagus from Mom’s garden.
I love asparagus from my Mom’s garden. I picked it myself - so I’m especially spoiled with the freshness and quality. I have a hard time buying it in the store because it is not as good as my Mom’s, in my opinion.
I stopped at Kohl’s in Mankato on my way home and found a cute and cheap shirt and in Michael’s I found some dirt-cheap frames for my posters in my bedroom. So instead of spending the afternoon outside in the gorgeous weather - I put together frames, hung up pictures and finally put up my permenant shower curtain rod.
I’ll get things finished around the house if it kills me.
I went for a run too - but I forgot to input it last night. Since the time is on my watch (which is at home), I can’t put up the RL until later. But I’ve had some improvement on my time, I can tell.
Today, if it’s not raining, I’ll go outside again for a run - otherwise I’ll get on the hamster wheel.

On the “dating” front - the Santa Strangler, haven’t heard from him since Friday. Not sure why or what even that means, but I’m not going to worry about it.
There’s another one I’ve started a conversation with, and he seems pretty cool too.
I’m just going to enjoy the attention! :-)
Hold on to the thread…

Well, there are updates in dating land!
The 6′4″ dude from yesterday - getting way too pushy/desperate for my liking. Who talks about a “dream date” with me and what they’re going to do (romantic walks, kissing, etc.) with me in the first email exchange?!? Yeah, I don’t think so.
The other guy from yesterday and I are exchanging emails outside of the Yahoo web of communication and so far, so good. He’ll probably find this blog too, so I hope I haven’t been too big of a nutcase on here in the past! Heh.
Dear god - I know people read my profile, because they comment on things in it. So how in the hell do they miss the part about “I do not want kids at all”?!?! Got another communication from someone who’s divorced with three kids! I am not going to be your surrogate mommy!! Damn.

Nothing like some live Pearl Jam to liven up my morning.
hear my name, take a good look
this could be the day
hold my hand, walk beside me
i just need to say…

At work today is our annual “Clean Up Day” and is the only day out of the year where wearing jeans is allowed. We also got free breakfast (Panera bagles, pastries and fruit) and will have free lunch later! The only thing that would make this day perfect is letting us kick off around 3pm and going to Kiernan’s down the street for happy hour pints! The happy hour thing probably won’t happen, but a girl can dream!
Not sure if I’m having people over tonight or not - haven’t heard from Husband or DK. Bree’s studying for finals, so she won’t be coming up. I can’t stay up too late because I have to be down to my sisters by 11am tomorrow morning. We’re having our family’s Easter dinner tomorrow. Due to the in-laws of my siblings, we never have the holiday on the actual holiday, and my mom doesn’t care when we have it just as long as we get together. Next weekend I’ll be busy too; Saturday is the Get-In-Gear 5k and Sunday is my nephew’s (and one of my Godsons) First Communion party.
So yeah, I could be busy these next couple of weeks if things go well. :-)
Life is good.
